Mission Statement

Our mission is to produce products of premium quality, design and durability that highlight the beauty of the woods natural grain. At the same time, Mill Street Woodworks will strive to provide its employees with a safe, enjoyable and rewarding environment, in which to work.

From the Beginning

Over the years, I have been a general contractor and worked in property management, but the love of working with wood started as a young boy. As a young boy born and raised in the small town of Albemarle N.C., I was amazed with the talents of my grandfather. In his small shop located on Mill Street, I spent many wonderful hours with him watching and asking questions, or just sitting around the old pot belly stove. The only thing that removed me from his shop was those yeast rolls, fresh out of the oven; my grandmother baked daily. As I grew, my grandfather started putting tools in my hand, and from then on I was hooked, wood was in my blood. Hulon Arey, my grandfather was born in, 1907 and lived to the age of 92, what a lucky kid I was.

From there, Mill Street Woodworks was started with the goal to provide our customers with premium quality wood products that highlight the natural grain patterns of the wood. We don’t use stains, paints, or veneers, only clear natural oil finishes. Our pieces are functional works of art!
